17 sierpnia 1944 r. nieprzyjaciel prowadzi silny ostrzał Starego Miasta burząc kamieniczki. Na Starówkę spadają setki ton bomb i pocisków. Płoną m.in: katedra św. Jana, najstarszy w Warszawie kościół Najświętszej Marii Panny na Nowym Mieście, Ratusz przy placu Teatralnym. W gruzy zamieniają się domy przy ul. Konwiktorskiej i Franciszkańskiej, przy Świętojerskiej i Długiej. Lotnictwo niemieckie bombarduje Rynek Starego Miasta oraz ulice Miodową, Kapucyńska, Hipoteczną.
Ponawiane są wielokrotne ataki na barykady zamykające pl. Zamkowy, Podwale, Piwną i Miodową.
The enemy conducts heavy shelling of the Old Town, demolishing tenement houses. Hundreds of tons of bombs and missiles fall on the Old Town. The cathedral of St. Jana, the oldest church of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Warsaw in the New Town, the Town Hall at Plac Teatralny. The houses at ul. Konwiktorska and Franciszkańska, at Świętojerska and Długa. The German air force is bombing the Old Town Square and Miodowa, Kapucyńska and Hipoteczna Streets.
There are repeated attacks on the barricades closing the square Zamkowy, Podwale, Piwna and Miodowa.

Der Feind beschießt die Altstadt schwer und zerstört Mietshäuser. Hunderte Tonnen Bomben und Raketen fallen auf die Altstadt. Die Kathedrale von St. Jana, die älteste Kirche der Heiligen Jungfrau Maria in Warschau in der Neustadt, das Rathaus am Plac Teatralny. Die Häuser in der ul. Konwiktorska und Franciszkańska, bei Świętojerska und Długa. Die deutsche Luftwaffe bombardiert den Altstädter Ring und die Straßen Miodowa, Kapucyńska und Hipoteczna.
Immer wieder kommt es zu Angriffen auf die Barrikaden, die den Platz schließen. Zamkowy, Podwale, Piwna und Miodowa.
